An elderly woman has died after staff refused to perform CPR as it was against the facility's policy. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Gillard begins her visit to Western Sydney.
CPR refused
Staff at Glenwood Gardens in Bakersfield, California, refused to give an 86-year-old resident CPR after she collapsed at around 11am on Tuesday morning. Despite the insistence of the 911 operator, the nurse refused, stating that it was against the retirement centre’s policy. Read more.
Julia Gillard tries to win back the west
Prime Minister Julia Gillard has commenced her five-day visit to Western Sydney over the weekend. Ms Gillard is focusing on employment in the area as her top priority in an attempt to change the idea that citizens of Western Sydney are second-rate. ABC news has more.
Another major flood hits Queensland
Water has begun to subside after another major flood hit the town of Dalby in Queensland over the weekend. Myall Creek peaked at 3.21 metres early on Sunday morning. It is not yet clear how many houses have been affected by the water. Ninemsn.com.au has more.
Queen in hospital with stomach bug
For the first time in 10 years the Queen has been admitted to hospital suffering from symptoms of gastroenteritis. She is said to be in good spirits and in a stable condition. A number of her engagements for this week have been cancelled. ABC news has all the details.
Sydney loses out to Adelaide in most liveable city
Adelaide has been awarded the best liveability score in Australia, with Sydney scraping in at second last. Darwin scored the worst overall. Participants were asked to rank importance of cleanliness, safety, good healthcare and public transport. SMH.com.au has more.
Shot fired in Broadway armed robbery attempt
Four men have attempted to rob a cash-in-transit van outside a Sydney shopping centre. Witnesses saw the men approach the Armaguard truck with firearms at 8.30am this morning. Read more.
