at Roma Street on 23 April to depart Brisbane with our expert coach driver Peter. After a pleasant drive south, we transferred to the Golden Swan to commence our Tweed River Rainforest cruise. Whilst on board, there was a very formal ceremony where Linfaye was reinstalled as Miss Tweed, a title she held in 1947. She happily wore her tiara for the remainder of the day.</p> <p>The trip along the Tweed was enhanced by an excellent commentary given by our Captain. A highlight of the cruise was the feeding of the pelicans and assorted other birds from the top deck. The trip concluded at Tumbulgum, a quaint little hamlet on the Tweed where we stretched our legs before rejoining our coach.</p> <p>We travelled a short distance to the Tweed Regional Art Gallery where we sat down to a most enjoyable lunch. Many chose to indulge in a libation or two which ensured some sound sleeping on the return trip home.</p> <p>After lunch we enjoyed a conducted tour of the Gallery which included the most interesting Margaret Olley exhibition. There was also time to appreciate the beautiful setting of the Gallery which was surrounded by beautiful gardens and lawns and offered panoramic views of the Tweed River and its surrounding landscape. Thanks to Hazel Gildea for selecting and organising the perfect location for the wonderful event.</p> <p>At the same time the inaugural MEN’S LUNCH was held at the Kenmore Tavern. TWEED RIVER DAY TRIP

A happy group of travellers gathered at Roma Street on 23 April to depart Brisbane with our expert coach driver Peter. After a pleasant drive south, we transferred to the Golden Swan to commence our Tweed River Rainforest cruise. Whilst on board, there was a very formal ceremony where Linfaye was reinstalled as Miss Tweed, a title she held in 1947. She happily wore her tiara for the remainder of the day.
The trip along the Tweed was enhanced by an excellent commentary given by our Captain. A highlight of the cruise was the feeding of the pelicans and assorted other birds from the top deck. The trip concluded at Tumbulgum, a quaint little hamlet on the Tweed where we stretched our legs before rejoining our coach.
We travelled a short distance to the Tweed Regional Art Gallery where we sat down to a most enjoyable lunch. Many chose to indulge in a libation or two which ensured some sound sleeping on the return trip home.
After lunch we enjoyed a conducted tour of the Gallery which included the most interesting Margaret Olley exhibition. There was also time to appreciate the beautiful setting of the Gallery which was surrounded by beautiful gardens and lawns and offered panoramic views of the Tweed River and its surrounding landscape. A pleasant drive back to Brisbane concluded what had been a most enjoyable day.
LADIES’ AND MEN’S LUNCHES
On Thursday 7 May, 23 ladies gathered at the “Wild Canary” at Brookfield to enjoy a delicious meal in convivial company. Thanks to Hazel Gildea for selecting and organising the perfect location for the wonderful event.
At the same time the inaugural MEN’S LUNCH was held at the Kenmore Tavern. Although the numbers were small, all enjoyed the camaraderie and the jokes.
MEMBERSHIP
This year the Club has welcomed seventeen new members. Eleven of those transferred to us from Brisbane Central Club following its disbandment. It has been wonderful to welcome so many new faces to the membership.
