Greeted by yellow California poppies, euphorbia, dianthus, roses, camellias, and the display of a rare Fraser Island Creeper in flower, we proceeded to the Botanical Gardens for a walk among the alleys of wisteria, palms, bromeliads, lagerstreoemias and into specialised landscaped gardens. It was also a bit of a photographer’s paradise. The Kenmore Village Probus Club had a wonderful time admiring scenic views while walking the garden trails of Mount Tamborine during an outing together.
Their first stop was the Showgrounds, the hub for morning tea and lunch, as well as the nursery and artisan stalls. Replenished with a cuppa and Devonshire scones we began our journey.
The beauty of the gardens was magnificent with the purple Eupatoriums buzzing from nectar-seeking bees, countless bulbs in colourful flowers, massed plantings of rhododendrons, azaleas, Japanese maples, clivias and cherry trees shaped so that their blossoms and fruit showered downwards. Water features presented us with attractive highlights that enhanced the garden’s ambience.
Luckily, our buses had room for plant and fruit/vegetable purchases, the most popular being hippeastrum lilies, daisies, various orchids, and fresh rhubarb.
After a lunch of gourmet sandwiches and the signature apple/rhubarb/coconut cake with cream, we went across to three cottage gardens in close proximity: Laadarra, Montville and Camden.
The meandering garden pathways and structured lawns led us to exotics and annuals. Greeted by yellow California poppies, euphorbia, dianthus, roses, camellias, and the display of a rare Fraser Island Creeper in flower, we proceeded to the Botanical Gardens for a walk among the alleys of wisteria, palms, bromeliads, lagerstreoemias and into specialised landscaped gardens. It was also a bit of a photographer’s paradise. We returned tired, but happy.
