“Disgraceful” protest against wall collapse
Construction union CFMEU has been urged to cancel a protest rally over last month’s wall collapse in Melbourne by the Victorian Government. Premier Denis Napthine believes the protest is an insult to the victims and their families. Read more.
Airports under fire
A recent report by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has revealed that the quality of service in Australia’s airports has fallen. Not one airport has been rated “good” in the report which surveys passengers, airlines and border agencies. ABC News has the details.
Sydney DJ to face inquest
One of the DJs embroiled in the suicide of nurse Jacinta Saldanha will appear at an inquest into her death addressing questions about her role in the tragedy. The inquest, due to start this week in London, has been adjourned until September. Seven News has the full story.
Manus Island a disaster
A doctor who worked on Manus Island, Papua New Guinea has claimed that he informed authorities that the facility was inappropriate for children but nothing was done about it. Dr John Vallentine worked at the centre between November and December last year and claims the centre is too remote and under-resourced. Read more.
Stuntman dies in zip-line tragedy
A stuntman who held the Guinness World Record for the longest distance travelled on a zip-line while hanging by the hair has died in a stunt gone wrong. Sailendra Nath Roy was attempting to cross the River Teesta in India on Sunday when his pony-tail became caught about halfway across. He was declared dead upon reaching the hospital. Prague gas blast injures dozens
A gas blast has injured 43 people after ripping through a building in the centre of Prague. The city’s mayor said no one is believed to have been killed although the injured does include some foreigners. Hundreds of people were evacuated from nearby buildings, fearing further gas leaks. Read more.
