Australia abounds with breathtaking wildlife and nature. What better way to experience its glory than by hitting the road and embarking on a wonderful adventure? Here are five spectacular road trips to enjoy.
The Great Alpine Road, Vic
From Wangaratta in the north-east to Metung on the beautiful Gippsland Lakes region, this 339-kilometre trip will take you through spectacular mountain ranges, rolling vineyards and thick forests. Some suggested spots include the famous Brown Brothers Epicurean Centre and Cellar Door and the Milawa Cheese Factory at Milawa, the Mount Buffalo National Park and the Ovens River in Bright.
The Great Barrier Reef, Qld
This 140-kilometre trip stretches between Cairns and Cape Tribulation and includes two stunning World Heritage sites, the Wet Tropics Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. There’s so much to see and do on this drive that you’ll want to give yourself enough time to soak it up - a three-day adventure would give you a wonderful taste of the tropics.
The Seafood Frontier Roadtrip, SA
Lovers of seafood will enjoy this spectacular journey, with highlights such as the Yorke Peninsula, famous for its blue swimmer crabs, the Pier One Seafood Cafe in Wallaroo, the 1kg Oyster Challenge at the Port Lincoln Hotel and the Oysterfest in Ceduna every October.
The road trip along South Australia’s coastline starts at the Yorke Peninsula and stretches to the state’s far west coast.
The Great Beach Drive, Qld
This 380-kilometre adventure winds through several National Parks and World Heritage-listed areas, connecting the Sunshine Coast with Fraser Island and the Fraser Coast. Great spots to stop and enjoy include a World Heritage Marine Park, two UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and the largest sand island in the world.
