Tensions are mounting in Logan between a group of Pacific Islanders and a group of Aborigines. Meanwhile, NSW fireies are still battling a major blaze in the state’s north and in the US, a new strain of flu has already taken the lives of 20 people.
Tensions mount in Logan
Racial clashes have continued for a third night in Logan as police struggled to separate groups of Pacific Islanders and Aborigines. The Premier, Campbell Newman and Logan mayor, Pam Parker, are calling for calm. The Courier Mail has the full story.
Fighting NSW bushfire
Milder conditions overnight have assisted firefighters to contain some sections of a major blaze in northern New South Wales. The fire has already destroyed 33 homes and burned through 40,000 hectares west of Coonabarabran. A watch and act alert is still in place. Read more.
Drugs linked to Rottnest head
Reports have emerged that the head found on a beach on Rottnest Island could be that of a well-known man linked to drug charges and underworld figures. WA police have refused to release the name of the man until his family are notified. Perthnow.com.au has more.
Deadly flu wreaking havoc in the US
Twenty people have died as the latest influenza hits the US. The H2N3 virus has swept through the country, with New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo declaring a state of emergency. The Australian Medical Association is warning that the flu may end up down under. News.com.au has more.
Armstrong apologies to Livestrong
Lance Armstrong has personally apologised to staff at the Livestrong cancer charity, saying he has let them down. Apologising to them in person, Armstrong encouraged them to continue their work fighting for people affected by cancer. He will appear on Oprah this Friday. Read more.
