Battle to contain the blazes
Fire crews are battling to contain the hundreds of fires burning across south east Australia while temperatures are still cool. Hot, windy weather is set to hit the area again as a total fire ban covers NSW and parts of Victoria and Tasmania. Read more.
Man drowns and second man shot
Police were called to Woolgoolga beach nears Coffs Harbour to help retrieve the body of a man who had drowned. Shortly after, a man was shot in the head nearby after becoming involved in an altercation. Yahoo News has more.
Indonesian police seize bombs
Police have discovered a stash of homemade bombs after uncovering plots to target tourist destinations in central Indonesia. Police shot dead seven suspects and arrested four, however two are still at large. ABC has the full story.
Ferry accident in NYC
Nearly 60 people have been injured when a ferry, packed with commuters, smashed into a pier in New York City during rush hour. Two people are critically injured, suffering head injuries. Passengers on board have said that the ferry was travelling too fast as it approached the pier. Yahoo News has more.
