Peter Cosgrove, former defence chief, is tipped to be named Australia’s Governor-General, succeeding Quentin Bryce in the position. Prime Minister Tony Abbott will supposedly name Major General Cosgrove as Governor-General on Monday. Read more.
Rare diamond found in South Africa
A rare, exceptional diamond has been found in a South African mine. The vivid blue, 29.6-carat diamond is believed to be in a class of its own. A 25.5-carat blue diamond was sold last year for AUD19 million. Sky News has more.
Stolen artworks in Italian exhibition
Italy’s cultural police have put a trove of recovered stolen art in Rome’s presidential palace. The exhibition, held by Italy’s cultural police force, includes the largest database of stolen works from around the world with close to 6 million objects. News.com.au has more.
King Alfred’s bones may have been discovered

Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff, currently suffering from kidney disease, has suffered a heart attack in prison. Madoff was taken to hospital last month after suffering the heart attack. He has now returned to prison. Read more.
