Mum confronted PNG attackers
Australian trekkers have arrived home from Papua New Guinea after two group members were hacked to death on a walking trail. Christiana King, a 38-year-old mother, has been hailed a hero after she confronted the killers, offering them money in an effort to get them to leave. The attack left two porters dead and four Australian tourists severely injured. Nine News has the details.
Sydney man circumnavigates the earth on foot
Tom Denniss will cross his finish line in Sydney today after running more than 26,000 kilometres around the world. Dr Denniss ran solo through the Grand Canyon, the Andes and crossed the Nullarbor plains, raising money for Oxfam. Read more.

A slimy pink Australian fish has been voted the world’s ugliest animal. Resembling a person with a bulging nose, the blob fish lives off the southern Australian coast. It has been named the mascot of the Ugly Animal Preservation Society which aims to protect the world’s weird creatures. Read more.
Prince William to leave military
Buckingham Palace announced yesterday that Prince William has left Britain’s armed forces to concentrate more on charity and royal duties. William completed his last shift as a Royal Air Force search and rescue pilot on Tuesday after seven years. ABC News has more.

The world’s oldest man?
An Ethiopian man is claiming to be the oldest man alive at the tender age of 160 years. Retired farmer Dhaqabo Ebba says he remembers the Italian invasion of Ethiopia in 1895, however there is no birth certificate to prove his age. News.com.au has the full story.
