Election funding backdated
Crossbenchers have expressed aggravation as it’s revealed that the deal on election funding by the major political parties includes a clause backdating it to April. The deal will see parties and successful independents receive 33 cents a year for every primary vote. ABC News has more.
Victorian hospital evacuated
A broken water pipe has caused major flooding at a Melbourne hospital, forcing the evacuation of patients. The second floor of the Maroondah Hospital flooded just after 5:00pm yesterday evening, along with the floors below it. Read more.

Baby saved from sewage pipe
A newborn baby has been rescued from a sewage pipe after being flushed down a toilet in China. Rescuers carefully cut open the pipe, guided by the baby’s cries, before taking the baby boy to hospital. See the amazing rescue on News.com.au.
Explosion caused by train derailment
A freight train has derailed near Baltimore, sparking a fire and huge explosion. Thick black smoke blanketed the area while authorities stressed that the chemicals were not toxic inhalants. Fifteen cars were derailed in the incident. Read the full story and watch the footage on ABC News.
