Telstra and the NSW Government have partnered to launch the Tech Savvy Seniors training program with the hopes of encouraging seniors to embrace technology and the digital age.
The program provides low cost or free training to older people in the community and covers courses on computers, tablets and smartphones.
“Giving seniors the confidence and skills to use technology is important so that they are able to participate in the digital community and economy,” Minister for Ageing Andrew Constance said.
Statistics show that in NSW, only 53 per cent of older people have access to the internet at home and this falls to just 49 per cent in regional areas.
“New communication technology presents wonderful opportunities – such as staying in touch with family and friends, and making new friends through social media,” Gordon Ballantyne, Telstra’s Chief Customer Officer said.
