Worker killed on Melbourne's Grocon site, Southern Stars win World Cup, Victorians fight fires and Russia cleans up after massive meteor blast.
Worker killed
A Melbourne construction worker has been killed in a fall from scaffolding this morning on the Grocon consruction site. WorkSafe is investigating the incident and 7 News will report more information as it becomes available.
Victorian fires
Victorians are fighting three major fires this morning. In the west of the state, fires are threatening farms and homes south of the Grampians National Park, while in the east two Alpine fires are expected to increase in size with hot weather and northerly winds.
Farmer Peter Dark told ABC News that most people in his area of the Grampians will remain to protect their stock. "Our house is pretty secure," ABC reports him saying. "We did [a brigade] burn around it pre-season which is fantastic, so I'm pretty confident our house is okay." Visit ABC News for the full story.
Australians win World Cup
The Southern Stars cricket team has won its sixth Women’s Cricket World Cup, with Elyse Perry taking three wickets and Jess Cameron scoring 75 runs from just 76 balls to help defeat the West Indies. Australia won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 259 from their 50 overs, before dismissing the entire West Indies line up within 44 overs for just 144 runs. Sky News has more.
Russia cleans up after meteor
Damage from a meteor blast 30 times the size of the Hiroshima nuclear bomb is being cleaned up by 2000 emergency workers in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk. Thousands of buildings were damaged and 1200 people injured when the meteor exploded 10,000m above the city.
