Former Labor frontbencher Craig Emerson says former prime minister Kevin Rudd must quit parliament. In a scathing critique, Emerson claims Rudd is the cause of leaks against Julia Gillard and that he committed treachery against Labor leaders. Seven News has more.
A piece of Tasmania’s history up in flames
The former Brighton Army Barracks has been destroyed by fire after fire crews arrived at the scene to find the only remaining building well alight. It took fire fighters half an hour to bring the blaze under control at the heritage-listed building. Read more.

Explosion outside Chinese school
An explosion outside a school in China has killed two people and injured more than 40 others, most of them children. The cause of the explosion is still unclear. A motorcycle passing the school gate allegedly caught fire and then exploded. Read more.

96-year-old lands hit single
A 96-year-old widower has produced a hit single with a touching ode to his late wife. Fred Stobaugh’s has already cracked the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart with Oh Sweet Lorraine.
