Nippers learn real-life lesson
When two women were stranded three kilometres off Avoca Beach, three nippers training for their surf lifesaving certificate found themselves taking part in a real-life rescue. One woman was unable to be revived; however the nippers have been praised for assisting with saving the life of the second woman. Read more.
Awards season
The 2013 entertainment awards season nominations have started with Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban Hugh Jackman and Naomi Watts being nominated for coveted Golden Globes. Twenty-four hours before, Jackman, Kidman and Watts scored nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Here’s hoping for Oscar nominations. More on SMH.

Samoa bracing for second hit

Inquest begins
An inquest has begun into the death of Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse at the centre of the 2Day FM royal prank call.
