Shinju Matsuri Festival: Festival of the Pearl
This unique festival celebrates the romance of Broome’s early days as a world-renowned producer of south sea pearls which grew in the waters of the Kimberley coast. It originated from several cultural festivals - the Japanese Obon Matsuri, Malaysian Hari Merdeka and the Chinese Hang Seng. Today, it’s a celebration of the city’s unique and diverse multicultural history.
