morning tea in fine style at Fairymead House in the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens and a viewing of historical items from the city’s sugar industry. And then it was on to Hervey Bay for our whale watching cruise. Forty Probians from the Taringa, Sherwood, Chapel Hill and Townsville Cleveland Bay Probus Clubs had a wonderful time visiting Agnes Water and the historic Town of 1770 during September.
In a wide-ranging five day tour, the group visited the fascinating Gold Mining Museum at Gympie and then travelled from the Town of 1770 on the amphibious LARC (Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo) vehicle to the Bustard Head Light Station and Museum.
We marvelled at the manoeuvrability of the LARC as we travelled in and out of the beautiful waters of Bustard Bay, climbing steep hills to the lighthouse with amazing views of the bay, and admiring the pristine coastlines of Eurimbula National Park.
We visited the rapidly growing city of Gladstone, calling en route at the beautiful Lake Awoonga and taking time for lunch and some fine wine and liqueur sampling at the Gecko Valley Winery.
Heading south again, we enjoyed morning tea in fine style at Fairymead House in the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens and a viewing of historical items from the city’s sugar industry. And then it was on to Hervey Bay for our whale watching cruise. At this stage the whales were migrating southwards and we were treated to amazing displays as playful giant humpback whales cavorted, breached, spouted and waved to us.
Our final stop on this outstanding and thoroughly enjoyable tour was in Yandina where we learned more about the production of ginger and ginger products and sampled some delicacies.
This was a tour with much historical interest, wonderful scenery, fine food, and plenty of great Probus fun, friendship and fellowship, enjoyed by Probians from four clubs.
