A tourist ferry has sunk in Thailand, killing at least six people and leaving dozens more injured. In international news, the LAX shooter may face the death penalty.
Tourist ferry sinks in Thailand
At least six people are dead, including three foreigners, after a tourist ferry sank off Pattaya in Thailand. Fifteen people have been seriously injured. Passengers were met by dozens of ambulances as they were led to shore. The ferry sank near Koh Larn, an island close to Pattaya. Read more.
Anonymous hackers deface dozens of websites
Hackers claiming to have links with international activist group, Anonymous, have defaced several Australian and Philippine websites, including those belonging to government agencies. LAX shooter could face death penalty
Prosecutors have filed a murder charge against 23-year-old Paul Ciancia, the suspect in the deadly shooting at Los Angeles International Airport over the weekend. Federal security guard Gerardo Hernandez was killed in the attack and five other people were wounded. Ciancia could face the death penalty. Read more.
Erupting volcano clears town
A western Indonesian volcano erupted twice yesterday, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes. Mount Sinabung has been erupting intermittently ever since. Red-hot ash and rocks were hurled up to seven kilometres into the air. Read more.
Earthquake in Taiwan explodes giant rubber duck
Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman's giant rubber duck deflated over the weekend after an earthquake shut down one of the air pumps. The duck is making its way around the world and was in northern Taoyuan County, Taiwan when the 6.3-magnitude earthquake caused a power outage. The duck exploded during attempts to reinflate it.
