Gillard to announce new cabinet
Prime Minister Julia Gillard is expected to announce her cabinet reshuffle today, appointing her sixth cabinet in just three years. Frontbencher Craig Emerson claims it will be a very strong frontbench. Seven News has the story.
Brisbane hit by severe storm
16,000 lightning strikes were recorded across south-east Queensland yesterday afternoon and evening, and more than 13,000 houses remain without power, as a freak storm swept across the state. More storm activity is expected throughout the week. Courier Mail has all the details.

Tasmanian DPP in head-on collision
A woman has died in a head-on collision on the Midland Highway in Tasmania yesterday. The Tasmanian Director of Public Prosecutions, Tim Ellis, was also reportedly involved in the accident and was taken to hospital. Ellis is currently in intensive care. Read more.
Recognised for bravery
Sam Matthews knew his mum and dad had died in the 2011 Queensland floods but he made sure he kept going to save his younger sister. Six months later, he died in a freak fire. He is now being recognised with a posthumous Bravery Medal. News.com.au has the story.
Queenslander Trevor Burns has also been recognised for his bravery, receiving the Star of Courage for saving a woman from a three-metre shark. It is the nation’s second highest honour for bravery. Read more.
President flees Central African Republic
Military sources have confirmed that rebels have taken Bangui and the President of the Central African Republic has fled. Homes, shops and businesses have been looted. The Red Cross has asked for secure access to the capital as injured people flood hospitals and medical centres. ABC News has more.
Reunited with his family after returning ring
A homeless man who returned a woman’s $100,000 engagement ring and won global attention for his good deed has been reunited with his long-lost family after losing contact with them in the nineties. His sister, Robin Harris Williams, spotted him on TV and reached out to Billy Ray. Ninemsn has the feel-good story.
