After leaving the town’s outskirts, the vineyards could be seen at the banks edge and a curious mob of cattle watched us go by, escorted for some distance by a black swan. </p> <p>After cruising for an hour or so, we turned and pulled into a landing area where most people got off and had a walk to see where we were in relation to the main road into Blenheim and to view an old Malthouse. </p> <p>Lunch was served back on board as we headed back to where we started. Fun and friendship afloat

On a beautiful, sunny Marlborough day, Blenheim Probus Club members started their year’s outings with a gentle cruise down the Opawa River on the purpose-built River Queen.
Morning tea was served as we wend our way down the river, looking into the backyards of those houses fortunate enough to back on to the water’s edge. The Opawa River was the service river for goods in and out of Blenheim for a good number of years and the Scow the Echo only stopped plying her trade when the Cook Strait ferries started. After leaving the town’s outskirts, the vineyards could be seen at the banks edge and a curious mob of cattle watched us go by, escorted for some distance by a black swan.
