Notorious bushranger buried
Ned Kelly has finally had his dying wish realised, as his family laid him to rest in a cemetery at Greta in Victoria. Kelly’s brother Dan and fellow gang member, Steve Hart, are also buried in the cemetery. The Age has a full account of the private service.

French sailor rescued
A French sailor has been rescued by passenger ship, PV Orion, after being stranded in the Southern Ocean for three days. Alain Delord set off a distress beacon after the mast on his yacht broke just off Tasmania’s south-west coast. Read more and watch the incredible videos on the ABC.
Obama sworn in
President Barack Obama has been sworn in at a private ceremony on the weekend. The Constitution mandates that the president take office on 20 January, however public ceremonial inauguration activities will take place on Monday 21 January in Washington. Read more.
